Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) I would like to share about the Lamu Hka which flows around Ja Hta village. In the past, there was a natural mountain torrent surrounding the village. The source of the mountain torrent was unknown because there were many confluences of other streams. Then, the chief of Nrawng Bum and the chief of Saulang Bum were talking about the torrent. The chief of Nrawng Bum said, "We don't know where this water flows from. What shall we name it? There are many tributaries, but we don't know the name of this river." He continued, "This is a big river and many tributaries are flowing into it. However, we can't identify the exact starting point of this water. Shall we name it 'Nmu Hka'?" ('N mu' means 'can't see' in Jinghpaw language.) The chief of Saulang Bum asked him, "Why do you want to name it 'Nmu Hka'?" The chief of Nrawng Bum explained, "We don't know the origin of this river, even to this day. This is such a big river. Also, there are many tributaries. But we don't know where the start of this river. Therefore, as the settlers of this village, we should name it 'Nmu Hka'. Let's name it Nmu Hka." During the time of our ancestors, they called it Nmu Hka. However, over time, the name has changed, and now we call it Lamu Hka. This big river is useful for all. It flows into the Mali Hka from Mali Yang. Since the origin of this river remains undiscoverable, our ancestors named it Nmu Hka which has now changed into Lamu Hka.
