Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there was a rich man in a village. He owned a dog and two cows. He also hired a man to take care of them. One day, the owner fed the dog the stale rice. The dog was upset because the owner fed him that stale rice. It thought to itself, "I am so pitiful to be the dog here. I have to eat the stale rice. I feel pity for myself." It was sitting sadly. It saw the two cows eating food deliciously in the cowshed. Then it thought, "He feeds them such delicious food. What about me? He feeds me this cold and stale food!" Later, the man who took care of the cows took them out of the shed to pull the bullock cart. While the cows were away, the dog thought, "Not that they are not here, I will eat their delicious food." He quickly ran to the shed. He kept staring at the food and thought, "It looks so tasty." Then it took a bite. The food was so hard to chew for it. He thought, "Such hard food to chew! It's as hard as sticks. It looks so delicious when they eat, but what is that?!" He just spat it out. He didn't want the cows to eat the food either, even though he couldn't eat it. When the other cows came to eat the food, he barked at them to stop them from eating. Soon, the owner and the cowboy came back home along with the two cows. When the cows approached their food they had been eating, the dog didn't let them eat. He kept barking at them. When the cowboy noticed the dog's behaviour, he said, "That dog is making the cows not eat the food which he can't even eat. It is acting out of jealousy! It intentionally barks at the cows not to be able to eat the food. Such a bad dog!" Then he tried to beat the dog with a stick. But the dog didn't run away. He cornered it in the pigsty and beat it up. At last, the dog ran away. The dog thought to itself, "What a foolish dog I am. Why did I stop the others from eating food that I couldn't eat too? It would be useful for the cows." Since then, it regretted its action. It didn't complain a bit and ate anything the owner fed it.
