Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there were many trees in a village. There were mango trees, (what is that?) banyan trees, and many other fruit trees. There were many plants in that village as well. Many animals such as pigs and cats usually took a nap under those trees. There were many plants and trees. Before the animals slept under those trees, the area around the trees was clean and pleasant. Refreshing air was blowing, and it was a nice place. Just a bit far from that place, there was a village full of pigs and dogs. There were animals like tigers too. Then the trees began talking to each other. The mango tree said, "Many people and animals such as dogs, pigs, cats and even tigers rest under my tree. And they pee and poop here. It's so bad and smelly! So, we should scare them. Then they will not come rest under our trees. We should scare them." Then a small bush near them said, "Yes. They are stepping on me too. We should do something!" The peach tree also said, "What the mango tree said is right!" It said like that. The banyan tree said, "Don't say that. Let them sleep under us. It's cool and pleasant beneath the trees. We can do good to them. We can do good to each other." The banyan tree was against their plan. Then the other trees said, "Don't say anything! You know nothing! Just shut up!" They shouted at the banyan tree while it was talking. It said, "Okay." It thought to itself, "Fine. Let's see. You didn't even let me finish my words. I will watch you guys." The banyan thought like that. Then the mango tree said, "Yes. We should scare them. Whoever comes to our trees, we should scare them. We need to drive them away." One day, a tiger came to the trees. The mango tree and the peach tree grew right next to each other. The tiger came to the trees and took a nap beneath them. It thought, "It is such a pleasant place." It took a rest there. And it slept there that night. That night, the mango tree and the peach tree rustled their leaves loudly. Then they made a loud noise to scare the tiger. They were making a loud frightening noise. The tiger felt scared and thought, "What is that noise? Maybe, something is haunting me." Before it was morning, the tiger ran away from there. Two weeks later, the trees had a meeting. During the meeting, they said, "We did it great, didn't we?" They proudly said to the banyan tree about it. The banyan tree thought, "Let's see. You interrupted me while I was speaking. You didn't even listen to me and didn't let me finish my words. Let's see what will happen. Let me watch and see what will happen to you one day." It just stayed silent. One month later, two men came to the trees. They carried axes and knives. The mango tree saw the men and said to the peach tree "Two men are approaching us with axes and knives." At that time, the banyan tree said, "They are coming to cut us down. That's why they come with axes and knives." And it said, "We have the guests who have never come here before. That's why I told you not to drive those wild animals away. People are frightened of them, so they didn't come to cut us down in the past. Now they are coming. We are sensitive about the smell because of the animals' poop and pee. So we drive them away, right? But what about now? People are here to cut us." It said like that. The mango tree and the peach tree told the banyan tree, "Why didn't you explain to us early? If you told us, we wouldn't drive the animals away." They blamed it. It said, "I tried to tell you during the meeting. But even before I finished my words, you stopped me "Don't speak!" You guys scolded me! Today, we are in trouble." The banyan tree was too big to cut down. The mango tree and the peach tree were the right size to cut down. So, the two men cut them down and sold the tree logs. Therefore, being impudent is not good. Transcription (Lu Awng) Moi shawng de mare langai mi kaw hpun ngu ai dai hku grai law hkra nga ai da.
