Description: | Natamambo The radio program 'Kastom Kaljo Tradisen' is broadcasted every Wednesday nights at 7.30pm. It looks into island to island traditions and the similarities, variations or changes around the northern and southern parts of the country. Most of the origin or creation stories are passed on over generations through oral traditions and these histories have been written down and continue are now being written by Europeans and now Ni-Vanuatu people. A lot of histories that was written or artefacts collected are in museums are only made known when they are brought to people's attention like this program. The naming of island of Malo Natamambo, south of the main Espiritu Santo island has had different versions from the days of the explorers and captains like De Queros, Bouganville and Cook (did not go ashore) and was formerly known as St. Bartholomew. A lot had to do with the Spanish influence and local names around 1768. Other islands like Pentecost and changes later to Maewo, Ambai, Malekula are part of the histories in the naming of these places. Malo Natamambo is now the accepted name of the island which has more of localised name. Audio recordings of 1978 of 'kastom danis' or custom dance with flutes from Naviora village of Malo Natamambo island are about traditional storytelling of traditions by Huri Huri and about pig killing ceremony which will be further covered in future program and other islands.
