| The man was created together with spirits, one of them was Yomek. One day a man didn’t want to share his kill with Yomek, who stayed with them at Kasom, but said that the bush rat he was eating was nothing but bones. Yomek was angry and cast a spell upon him, took out his bowels and wound them all around, like a spider-web in men’s house. Then he went to the bush and climbed a tall ironwood tree. When his father Yamis was looking for him, he was not in men’s house. They went to search for him, and found him on top of the tree, where he was sulking because he was only given bones. They brought him gifts, but he wouldn’t come down, tried to cut the tree, but it grew even taller. They tried to climb it, but it grew taller. They nearly despaired, thinking they’d never get their spirit Yomek back, but he came down. He made bamboo flute, filled it with his power, and showed them that the sound was the same as the sound of spirits. He told them to practice initiations in men’s house as he had taught them. He cried and slept and left for Kombonaŋ creek. Yamis left Amongao and settled down at Kwim [all names of ancestral places]. | ||
