| Description: | This audio file is the recording of an official meeting held in the main room of the chief's palace in Ajumbu. Many people, especially mature ones, were present at the meeting, but their names are not known. Mr. Sah Nicholas, a very respected man in the village, acts as interpreter and introduces his co-villagers to the work that will take place in the next few days, i.e. the documentation of Ajumbu language through audiovisual recordings of its oral traditions and of some of the key cultural practices (both men's and women's). Most types of verbal art, especially if connected with important secret associations, cannot be performed due to the fact that the aged village chief is very sick (he will die in early 2013). Nelson introduces locals to the experience accumulated in Wum (Divisional capital):after about 20 years of work, a group of local scholars has produced a wealth of literacy materials and now Wum language (Aghem, [agq]) is taught in public schools. Locals are asked to indicate what activities they want us to film and work on with their help. | |
